My toophh My tooph fell out!

It finally happened Shae!

Look yew! You have grown so much since you been home! So much so, in the last couple weeks your 2 front bottom teeth has started to become loose.

So yesterday you had a pop-tart for breakfast and you mentioned to daddy that your mouth hurt when you tried to chew the the pop-tart. Daddy reached over and wiggled your tooth but it didn't quite seem loose enough to try yesterday morning, so I consoled you and said we look at it again when daddy got home for work.

CeeCee picked you and TQ from school, and you mentioned to her that your tooth hurt when eating breakfast. You crazy aunt ceecee wiggled your tooth and must have thought it was loose enough, so she ask you if you wanted to try pulling your own tooth out of the head. You must have got your patented 'nod' (single ping), because she went and got a nice sized piece of dental floss. She tied a loop in it and lasso'ed your tooth shae!. She told you to get a good grip on the string and she held the very end of it to help *stable* it. One, two, and Three, BOOP, and you bopped it right out. Grinning with a paper towel in your mouth and your widdle tooph hanging from the string.

Mama and Daddee were so proud of you when we got home, and praised you so much for being a brave girl and getting your very FIRST tooth. So comes to what ever girl and boy does when they loose a tooth. Mama and dadee get out the special purse, pillow, box, etc and we put the tooth in it, and that the Tooth fairy knows that they need to make a stop at their house and pick up the tooth in the exchange for a special monetary gift. In your case, when we were in China to bring your home, mama/dadee picked up a few little silk purses that should work perfect to allow us to alert the Tooth Fairy to make stop. We got one for each you girls.

As mama and dadee were explaining what we were going to help you do with your tooth, you weren't so sure about letting this little fairy into our house to roam and around and see you sleeping in your room as she picks up the 'precious'. Mama/Daddee continue to explain that she is a very nice and lovely fairy, its ok for her to be in the house briefly to do her important work. You were still a bit hesistant even after dinner and closer to bedtime, about it so we moved your tooth/bag from your room the hallway and hung it on the attic doorknob. You seemed to be a bit more ok with that setup, as loong as she (the fairy) would not be going into your room. We assured you that she would only go where the tooth was, do her work, and leave to go on to the next house.

With that, you and aubree were off to sleep, and in the morning you would be a bit richer. That is you would need to sleep, since the Fairy is a bit shy like Santa Claus and needs you to be asleep for them to do their work and not get scared.

Fastforward to this morning:

You wake up, shortly after daddee has gotten ready and come out to get yourself around. You mention to daddee that you thought you heard the tooth fairy last night doing her work last night then you weren't for sure. You though it might have been around 9pm (Though you are barely starting to know how to tell time, and you don't have a clock in your room), so it could have been later you said.

You were still a bit hesistant about the whole thing but did check your purse pretty enthusatically, and lo and behold the fairy had taken your tooth and had left you a GOLD coin. It was a "Sacagawea dollar coin", which is the going rate for teeth nowadays. Once we got Aubree around and started breakfast you wanted to tell everone what had happend and what you got, so we called Momma at work. We also got a plastic bag to put the coin in so you wouldn't loose it, because you wanted to take it to gramma to show her, though you were told that you could not bring to school with you.

So in another week, you will probably will be loosing ANOTHER tooth right beside the one you just lost and so you will not your bottom front teeth :) Dadee hopes he will be able to help you get that one out, or at least be there.

We are so proud of you, and you are growing so much, and are being such a brave girl! We love you!!!

Aubree, in a few years you will get to start loosing your teeth as well!

Shae's pre-IEP meeting... it was like Christmas!

I dont know if I should write about Shae's pre-iep meeting or not...
not sure I want to jinx it. I may be naive, it it was like
Christmas and I was able to get Shae everything she needs.

Both the mobility specialist and the VI teacher said they think Shae
functions at about 20/600 in the school environment. That is way
worse than the 20/300 from Iowa City doctors... but they said that
was a 'perfect' environment. School is shiney wood floors under
shiney wood tables in rooms with big windows. The MS took her out
walking around the school grounds, busy streets, and the school. He
was very impressed that she went right to her locker and slapped her
hat on her head...he said most of the kids he works with would have
just taken off!

Shae did great on the school grounds ('astonishing nimble' was the
phrase he used), did awesome by the street in seeing the
sidewalk/curb transitions and looking for cars. She was extremely
hesitant at the stairs (its got dark floor in a dark space...cant
tell the transition) but could make it up without stumbling. He
asked if she had been on the streets around school and we said 'of
course... we've been all over on foot'. We've been taking her out
at dusk and making her tell us the way home so she knows the
neighborhood/where she is in relation to the house at different
times of the day :D What she didnt do good at was raising her head
up when she walked (must...watch...feet! nevermind tree branch!),
she couldnt see the walk signs, and forget about being able to pick
out street signs on spinly poles... thats just not going to happen.

Inside, the VI teacher said that Shae has 2 close distance levels
she works at - 6 to 8 inches away for big items (14 to 16 font) and
nose on paper for smaller things. The VI teacher said she just
wanted to cry when she saw Shae looking at something small and her
poor head shaking back and forth in a vain attempt to catch up with
her nystagmus. She said none of her other kids have as bad of
nystagmus as Shae does.

So... Christmas! Shae's IEP at minimum is going to contain the
following:

Cane work

Monocular work - MS said he wasnt sure if Shae would be able to use
a monocular affectively since her nystagmus is soooo bad

Dual reading of text and braille

CCTV

Time and aide accommodations

I'm minorly happy so far... we'll see how the school year goes
though before I get real happy....the real IEP meeting is next
week. The VI supervisor was there and she said not to ever worry
about asking for equipment and not getting it... anything Shae needs
will always be available to her as long as she is in our town's
school system. All of the equipment in town is bought on grants
from the Federal Government via the Iowa School for the Blind.

I did tell them about Shae's upcoming surgery and they were
interested. The MS asked for Dr. Hertle's name and was going to do
some internet searches on him :)

Our other Baby Goes to School!

Oh BiXiu you are getting to be such a big girl (of 3.5). Starting next week you get to go to a big girl PRE-SCHOOL! Mama and Baba are so proud of yew. You will get to go a few days a week this year then hopefully 3-5 days next year.

We just found out this week their was an openning to get you in. Mama jumped and tackled that opening, and ran like it was a nice sharp set of sissors home! Grand mama is going to make up the difference in time, so instead your school-ish daycare, you will stay with her and the other girls, and then you get to go to PWEEEE-STEWWL!!

Now all you need to do is finish your potty training, and you will be SET! ;)
