dem girls... they swim like fish!

The girls have decided that the pool is where its at this summer!

'Mama' Shae says 'can I have a pool?' Translation: Mother, may would you be so kind as to take me hither to the pool this fine afternoon?

Aubree announces to the her entire SLEEPING class at daycare 'I GO TO THE POOL!!! Ms T... MAMA TAKE ME AND SHAE HONGQI TO THE POOL! WE GO SWIMMING! PUT OUR FACES IN THE WATER AND BLOW BUBBLES LIKE A THIS!!!! CEECEE, MYA, BAIYU AND TALEN TOO!!! NOT DADEE - HE'S AT WORK! GRANMA NO GO TO POOL EITHER!!

SHQ and the other girls like to jump off the end and go under the water... holding their breath no less!

B says 'I no jump in water Mama.... I go to big pool and bob with you' Big pool = the deeper pool over by the slide.

The only thing about the pool that bothers me is that now that Shae is brave enough to go down the slide... the lifeguards wont let her wear her tinted goggles. Brave, but blinded by the sun... kid cant win! I let her go without them... I dont know if its worth telling the lifeguards every time they switch job posts that the child should be allowed to wear the goggles or having Mama point out for everyone to hear... multiple times a visit... that this one is different, got to do something special just for her. I dont want her to feel like she's being pointed out as different... she's not in any way other than she's squinty!

Dem fishes are going to take swimming lessons starting in July... pray for their instructor!!! *giggles* :D

Oh and dance... they're going to another session of that too ;)

Dancing Queen... young and sweet!

Thursday was the first night of dance class for Mya, BaiYu, Shae HongQi, and Aubree BiXiu. They're all taking the same summer dance class...they have got to be the cutest little ballerinas I have ever seen :)

Mya and B wear pink outfits, SHQ and BaiYu wear black... all wear pink tights and tan dance shoes. For those of you that dont have small children... especially small girls... do you have any idea how hard it is to put tights on a tiny child that is more than bouncy excited to go to dance class? Its like trying to put a condom on a ping pong ball!

The girls are just beside themselves with happiness... the swish factor on their dance skirts is awesome, they get to wear their hair pulled back, and they think they are wonderfully cute when they admire themselves in the mirror at the studio. Oh yeah... and they get to dance. *giggles*

Each little girl was told to listen to the teacher and not fool around. It worked on B and SHQ but not Mya and BaiYu. BaiYu likes to talk and is more than willing to answer the teacher's questions to the class or tell her how BaiYu thinks the class is going. Mya... she likes to moon around and wave out the window. SHQ is focused like no one's business... but she does have time to keep the other 3 in line! B is a little 'deer-in-the-headlights' like right now, but she'll warm up. B didnt want to do the bunny hops on the mat while she was there BUT she didnt it better than most of the girls that were slightly bigger/older than her when she got home! Thats my little shy bunny!!

Tuesday and Thursday nights for the next few weeks, you can find us at dance class. If they continue to like it, we'll try to get them in another session this summer and have them do regular lessons in the fall.

BTW - Shae HongQi ceased to be blotchy by Thursday thanks to the predisone!

update on Empress Itchy

3 doctor visits in 24 hours and my poor child FINALLY has predisone! Might I just say... and I mean this from the bottom of my heart... doctors have got to be the biggest morons on the face of the earth. Okay... maybe just the second doctor we saw... the 1st one got in on just the start of the blotchy and the 3rd was an amazingly good egg.

Dr #2 told me yesterday morning that IF Shae HongQi's blotches got so bad that they went purple, then I was to call up and she would give me a Rx for predisone. 4pm yesterday we got to DEFCON PURPLE! Put the child in an oatmeal bath and call her father.

Dadee: 'Hello! this is....'

Mama: 'CALL THE FREAKING DR AND GET HER TO CALL IN THE PREDISONE! This is NOT a drill! Repeat! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!

Dadee: 'Okay... whats the num....'

Mama: 'I'M HIP DEEP IN AN OATMEAL BATH AT THE MOMENT - LOOK UP THE DAMN NUMBER!'

Mama: hangs up phone and continues to blubber over small splotchy child

Dadee calls back...

Mama: 'WHAT!'

Dadee: 'I called and had to leave a voice mail....'

Mama: IF THEY DO NOT CALL YOU BACK BY 4:30PM YOU CALL THEM AGAIN!!

Mama: hangs up on Dadee again

Dadee... brave man that he is calls back again...

Mama: WHAT!

Dadee: 'They called back! The nurse talked to the Dr and the Dr wants SHQ seen again before anything that might be useful is prescribed...

And this is the juncture where Mama goes completely off... I'm sure 'mother fucker' was shouted several times....

Dadee: waits with the patience of a Saint for Mama to stop cussing...

Mama: tires out and gets raspy...

Dadee: The dr wants us to take her to Central Ped tonight and have her looked at....

Mama: WHERE THE FRICK IS CENTRAL PED!?!?!?!? @L@L#K2)@*(@#*@(!!!

Dadee: explains where its at and tells Mama he's coming home

Mama: runs around the house trying to figure out what the hours are for the clinic and if she's got to jet quickly to get SHQ there

Dadee: comes home

Mama: (still on high volume) WE'VE GOT TO GAVE A GOD DAMN APPOINTMENT IF WE GO THERE AT NIGHT!!! I WANT TO GO TO THE ER NOW!!!!

Dadee: (mellow as Buddha...) I already have an appointment

Mama: 'I love you!! Lets go!'

Dadee: 'Its not until 8:15pm....'

And this is where Mama goes completely off again because its just before 5pm and SHQ is getting worse by the minute....

So we hang out getting more and more blotchy and itchy until 7:30pm and Dadee takes off with Shae... at 8:45pm he calls and says they're coming home and the golden Rx is in his hand. It wasnt until 9:30-9:45pm that she actually got her first dose of Predisone...

And this morning when I went into her room... 95% improvement overnight. My child suffered all flipping day because the damn doctor she saw yesterday morning was too timid to take a chance that this was going to get worse and just put the kid on the steroid. I am NOT HAPPY!

She's still blotchy/itchy today with the spots moving around her body, but she's a different girl today. Happy, dancing, fart in the skillet like... its a beautiful thing!

Her Supreme Royal Blotchiness

SHQ is a pretty miserable little child this morning... she has been dubbed Her Supreme Royal Blotchiness for the occassion. Why? BECAUSE SHE'S COVERED FROM HEAD TO TOE IN HIVES!

Thats right folks... completely covered... the only place on the poor skinny child thats not covered is from her eyes to her chin. They're in her hair. They're behind her ears. They're absolutely every where... some were as big as the palm of my hand this morning when she got up.

What caused it? No one knows... nothing in her environment has changed at all. She's been to the dr twice in the last 24 hours and is the proud owner of a tube of really good RX hydrocortizone cream that does absolutely nothing (from last night's trip to Urgent Care) and some Super Duper Rx hystamine liquid. Dr said it could last from 7 to 10 days BUT if the hives started going purple... she's suppose to come back in and get started on an oral steroid.

If I could take all the hives away and put them on me... I would in a heartbeat :(

Eye Dr Strike 2!

At the insistance of our ped, I took Shae HongQi to another pediatric eye dr in town today before heading to Iowa City in July. I feel like I'm at a baseball game and we're on Strike 2!

This guy had a few more toys to do tests with. He said that the dr SHQ saw before must have spent a lot of time working on her Rx because its great but its too strong (imagine that! duh!). I said, okay... then we should change it right? Uhmmm - well, he admitted that he should have tested her eyes BEFORE he dialated them to get a more accurate reading.

He then said that her glasses didnt help her see that much better... that they were really just for protection. He said that the surgery to correct her head tilts were too risky... if she favored one side over another then that would be another story. Alrighty then! So you're telling me that putting her chin on her chest and her head turns to either side to see better is not something you're willing to study further? No... too risky!

How about her null points I asked him? Are her null points to center? (how can they be with the head turns?). He said that kind of determination could only be done if he had examined her before her eyes were dialated. Back to the dialation again! Why am I here then if your not going to give her a FULL exam?

The only thing of interest he did tell me was that she has a scar on her cornea and that her nystgamus would slow down as she got older. Her regular dr didnt say a word about the scar and said her mystgamus would NEVER slow down.

So I guess we're working our way up the food chain... Iowa City next and then possibly Dr Hertle.... probably should have just gone to Dr Hertle :( Am I being unreasonable to think that SOMEONE should be able to tell me something else besides 'too risky!' and 'dont know'? I know SHQ is never going to see perfect, but she has the right to see as best as I can help her to. *sighs*

The courage of little children

There have been several messages about finding courage on the yahoo groups lately and how Mamas are suppose to find it when faced with the the child they've been waiting for. I think we all need to take our cue from the little children themselves... their lives are the ones that are being turned upside down, yet they find their ways out of chaos to the other side happy and whole.

This is a conversation I had with Shae HongQi last night when we were snuggling... came totally out of the blue:

SHQ: I scared when the door shut

Me: Where?

SHQ: Chinese

Me: (the light dawning!) You mean when we went up to our hotel room the first day we were together in China

SHQ: China - yep

Me: Oh! I was scared too...

SHQ: I cry and no take off my coat. No take off my coat Mama!

Me: And Mama cried with you didnt she?

SHQ: Yep - I scared. I cried. You cried. Dadee no cry. Him Boy!

Me: Mama held you on the bed and rocked you while you cried didnt she? And after awhile you let Mama unzip your coat (2 hours later...)

SHQ: Yep - take off coat later. No get my shoes! Take bath with Mama! No take bath with Dadee! Dadee help Mama take bath with Shae HongQi! Mama rub my feet with lotion!

Me: Are you still scarit?

SHQ: Nope. Mama say 'scare-D' not scarit!

Me: Are you sure?

SHQ: Mama! I told you already!! Geez! You listen better!

For those of you wondering about language development - wit and sarcastic delivery show up first! Pronounciation comes later... along with diction correction of you by your child ;)

Laurie - proud mama of Shae HongQi and Aubree BiXiu (5 and 3 yrs old)

save me from the dr appointments!

Jesus Gay! Who knew 2 little girls would require SOOOO many dr appointments. Seriously, I need to carry around a huge day planner to keep them all straight! Between the regular dr appointments, the ent appointments, and the eye dr appointments... its a wonder I'm at work at all! :D

Dear sweet Aubree BiXiu failed her hearing test at daycare... that earns her an automatic trip to the ent for a hear test. NEVERMIND the child hears everything we say to her and everything we DONT want her to hear. She also has better diction and a larger vocabulary than the vast majority of her peers at daycare. Oh yeah... my kid cant hear... suuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeee she cant. My theory is that she was playing coy and didnt feel the need to participate - Go B!! Way to stick it to da man!

Shae got shots yesterday, she had an eye dr appointment a couple of weeks ago, another eye appointment next week with a different eye dr (cuz the one she has... dude, that dame is WORTHLESS), a trip to the ent just because B is going too, and possibly a trip in July to an eye specialist in Iowa City. Now thats a busy girl!
