Tell me dear sweet nutbrown baby - what do you mean when you say 'shone? shhhone? shhhhhone?' at the dinner table? Are you talking about the crayons and a sheet of paper? Are you talking about the comb and detangler bottle that Dadee uses every morning to tame the rats in your hair?
Who told you that the ambulance going by is taking people to the doctor? I am simply amazed every time the sirens go by and you start to chant 'doctor! doctor! doctor!'
Uppa and down, wrock (rocking chair), all done - I understand those things loud and clear when you say them. Meow Meow, Java, Dora - also crystal clear! You've got hand signals on you that dont quit - and I love each and every one AND I understand them all!
I love you sweetie! You're getting to be such a big girl!
One of the Mamas on the china adoption yahoo groups was asked by her daughter why she had to be of a different culture than her parents. I think thats a great question to talk about - I just dont have an answer.
I'm afraid I'm going to be the Mama that says throughout your childhood 'your birth country is VERY important - embrace it!' There is so much to learn about the Chinese culture - it is vastly more interesting than my mutt of a background and Dadee and I will be as involved as you want us to be. Forgive us if we cant give you lots of first hand experience - but we will do the best we can!
Your cultural identity is ultimately up to you - it is as much or as little as you wish to make it.
Every night when Mama rocks Aubree BiXiu before laying her in bed, we have a gaggle of songs we always sing. Not necessarily in this order, we do:
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Patty Cake
Peas Porriage Hot
Aubree BiXiu is SOOOOOOOOOOO Big - twice with Bomp Bomp at the end of each chorus
Daisy Daisy - changed to say Aubree Aubree
Hey diddle diddle
Away in a manger (yeah its Christmas, but she likes it!)
Brown Eyed Girl
Ittys Bittys Spider - complete with hand movements
